The Three-Piece Suit

You may be puzzled by the omission of the three-piece suit in this lineup, since it is often considered the most classic of gentlemanly suits. Despite its genteel roots, the three-piece has become more a fashion statement than a wardrobe staple and is thus subject to ebb and flow of popularity. Yet it remains an elegant alternative in an extended wardrobe. lt affords two distinct advantages: an added layer for colder climates and a more polished look for those who dispense with their suit jackets in an office. Still, it is not the choice for those of you building a young wardrobe. it's more expensive than two pieces and appears a tad pretentious or overdressed for a young man. You're not ready for the pocket watch chain or, perish the thought, a dangle for your Phi Beta Kappa key. Stick with two pieces.
