Guide on how to buy your first suit

Lounge suit guide
Your first suit is very important, it can be worn for many different occasions. It can make you look professional and suave and give you that classic look you’ve been dreaming of. There are a few different things you need to think about, so remember these tips and your first suit will hopefully be your best suit.

Suit Measurements

Knowing your measurements is the first step to buying your perfect first suit. An old t-shirt might be a certain size and fit you, but your suit will not be the same. Make sure you know your size measured professionally or do it yourself at home.

Color and occasion

Do not choose black for your first suit, it is not very versatile and will look too formal. Go for a more casual yet smart color like navy, grey or dark brown. Once you have your first suit, then you can get creative and buy different and more colorful suits to add to your collection.
You need to decide what occasion your suit is for before you make the final decision on your suit. Is it for a big black-tie event, a business meeting or evening drinks and a party? Once you have your occasion down, then you can start thinking about the suit design. If your suit is for a formal occasion stick with darker solid colors for your suit, but if your going for the casual look then mix it with some bright colors and funky patterns.

Tailoring

Once you have bought your suit, why not take it to a tailor to have it altered to your body. This will give off a more professional look and will flatter your body more than an ill-fitting suit. Make sure to get your hems done and the jacket sleeves and trouser legs altered for the best look.

Suit Accessories

There are many ways to spice your suit up and make it look fun. Try adding different colored ties, pocket squares, lapel pins, and shirts. Remember to match your accessories with the occasion, you don’t want to draw attention to yourself for the wrong reasons. If your going for a more formal look then why not go for a plain, white shirt. This will look very smart and complement your suit. If you're wanting to look more casual, why not so bold and pick a bright color or pattern shirt for your suit.
