  • Fabrics have a personality of their own and they'll stab you in the back if you don't care for them properly. Suede is one such fabric. And there is a gentle way to clean it, and a rough one.

    Suede's Bad Reputation

Suede is a kind of fabric not everyone likes to wear, just because of the hassle it takes to clean it. But, suede has made a huge fashion comeback. Though, it is not as versatile as cotton or leather, suede is standing out as a statement piece.

    The Gentle Method

Water will stain suede, so refrain from using any liquids to clean it. A clean, colorless eraser will do a great job. Rub only in one direction and surface stains and dirt will melt away. If something is a bit more ground-in rub in both directions to lift the stain or dirt.

    The Right Tool

If the eraser didn't work, don't worry. Stubborn stains can be tackled using a suede brush. Suede brushes are two-sided tools which are solely designed for the purpose of cleaning this type of fabric. With the wired side, gently brush to remove any remaining marks.

    The Rough Method

In the unlikely event of an emergency, panic. No, just kidding. A damp towel and some white vinegar will work wonders. Greasy stains will come off with the help of a de-greasing leather cleaner. Some of which are designed especially for suede.

    The Final Option

It's definitely not the cheapest, but taking the piece to your dry-cleaner is the best way to clean suede properly.

I hope my tips helped you to remove those unwanted marks from your favorite suede things. Now go out and wear your suede with pride.
